Loyalty app

A UK restaurant chain ran its loyalty club on an old checkout system, an old vendor's CRM and a spreadsheet uploaded once a month. We built Pluzo: sign-up, points and vouchers at the counter, a staff app, a guest app, and email campaigns that show who really opened them.

The problem

Points sat in the old checkout system, members in an old vendor's CRM, and everyone else went in as a spreadsheet once a month. There was no easy way to find the regulars who had stopped coming. And email open rates lie: mail apps that load images on their own count as opens.

How it works, end to end

  1. Sign-up

    What we built

Guests join on the restaurant's own website, in the guest app, through a QR code or link, or at the table with staff. They become members straight away and get their login by email. Every sign-up records where it came from, down to the email that brought it, and a guest already on file is upgraded, not duplicated.

What it changed: Every sign-up lands in one guest list, with consent recorded.

  2. Moving over

    What we built

4,400+ guests and 600+ members came across from the old system, then synced again before the switch. Duplicates were merged, junk rows cleaned out, and every point total matched exactly.

What it changed: Nobody lost a single point in the move.

  3. Points, vouchers and offers

    What we built

Staff find the guest, enter the spend and pick lunch or dinner: one point per pound. At 200 points a £10 voucher is issued on its own and emailed with a barcode. Offers run by code, as pounds off or bonus points, with dates they don't apply; complimentary “Eat for free” vouchers and vouchers for non-members work too. A redeemed voucher counts as a visit.

What it changed: Rewards and offers run themselves, and every redemption is recorded.

  4. Staff app and guest app

    What we built

A staff app on iPhone and Android, plus a web version for the counter, shows today's guests, points given and vouchers redeemed. Guests have their own app with points, vouchers and visit history. Fixes reach staff phones in minutes, without an app store review.

What it changed: Staff run loyalty from their phones at the counter.

  5. Email campaigns

    What we built

An email builder with templates, merge tags and a voucher code for each guest. Send now or schedule in UK time, to members, everyone, a saved search or an uploaded list. Follow-ups go to people who didn't open or didn't click, and a running series can be paused, edited and resumed.

What it changed: One campaign reached 4,300+ guests, every email tracked.

  6. Real opens

    What we built

Amazon SES reports every delivery, open, click, bounce and unsubscribe. Opens from Apple Mail, Gmail's image proxy and security scanners are split out, so only real opens count.

What it changed: The open rate means something.

  7. Birthdays and win-back

    What we built

Birthday, partner's birthday and anniversary emails go out on their own at 9:00 UK time. Saved searches like “not visited in the last 90 days” drive win-back offers.

What it changed: A win-back voucher from a “Miss you” campaign was redeemed at the counter.

  8. The owner's reports

    What we built

Where guests live by distance, top guests and top offers, a 30-day activity chart, and how many emails went out and what they cost to send.

What it changed: The owner sees who comes back, from how far, and what the marketing costs.

  9. UK GDPR

    What we built

Consent for each channel with its time and source, one-click unsubscribe, bounces and complaints opted out on their own, an audit log, account deletion from the guest app and data export.

What it changed: Privacy rules are handled without extra work for the team.

Pluzo went live in July 2026 with 4,400+ guests. The guest app is on the App Store and Google Play, staff add points from their phones at the counter, and every campaign shows who really opened it and who clicked.

  • 4,400+ guests and 600+ members moved over, every point balance exact
  • 20,970 emails sent in August 2026, every real open and click tracked
  • Win-back offers redeemed at the counter

We moved 600+ loyalty members from the old system and every balance matched to the point. That was the part I was most nervous about. Now points, vouchers and our guest emails run from one place, and we can tell which emails real people opened, not just mail apps.
